Small apartments are challenging. Living in a small space comfortably can be done without drastic change. There are several things you can do to make your small space appear a lot larger and making the most of a small apartment:
Get rid of the clutter- Make a sweep through your room, look for extra accessories, clothing or furniture that you don’t need any more. Sort out your old magazines and books, and throwing out what you don’t need. List these things on Craigslist or another online classified – not only will you get rid of things
you don’t need, but you could make some extra cash in the process!
Use natural light – Use mini-blinds instead of heavy curtains to let to let the sunshine in. Natural light enhances room space, making it look larger. In the dark months of winter, proper lighting is beneficial; they give an illusion, making small rooms bigger.
Use cool colors – The color of a room can change the
space’s atmosphere drastically. Choose hues that are light and
cool – this will make your room feel airy and open. Soft tones
in a similar color scheme are also helpful, like blues and greens.
Keep it open- One of the things that can make an apartment seem small is when a bookshelf, chair, or other piece of furniture clutters up a small space. It helps to place your furniture and accessories in an area that won’t block walkways or high-traffic areas. Another idea is to place a few pieces of furniture at an angle – although it seems counter intuitive, this can actually create the look of more space.
Choose wall decor carefully- Mirrors, when used right, creates an illusion that there are more rooms than there actually are. For even more space, place a mirror across from a window so you can get an outdoor view from both sides. When picking up photos and art, choose frames that are similar in color. This way, wall hangings will complement one another.
Smart storage- Storage options nowadays are endless. Tupperware has a wide variety of products that can easily fit under the bed. You can also purchase over-the-door wall hooks to hang your coats and robes.
Think vertical – Using vertical elements such as a tree or a tall lamp in the corner of your living area will enhance its appearance.
Whether you use all of the above tips, or just a few, each can help your living space appear much larger – thus making you much happier and content in your apartment.
